Institute Presentation

Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPI-MG) is one of the key research institutes for molecular biology research and is perceived internationally as a stronghold of genome and genetics research. The overall research goal is to gain new insights into the development of diseases on a molecular level, thus contributing to the development of novel cause-related medical treatments The Department of Hans Lehrach is the Managing Entity of the OncoTrack project and therefore co-leading the management workpackage. The MPIMG is one of the largest next generation sequencing center in Europe and has outstanding expertise in the field of NGS technology development. In the OncoTrack project the group will contribute NGS related technology development and will provide sequencing of genome, exome, transcriptome, and methylome of all available material. Additionally the group will be involved in data management, integration, bioinformatic analysis and modeling. Prof. Hans Lehrach is the lead for this application. He is Director at the MPIMG and has longstanding experience in genomics and systems biology projects. Dr. Marie-Laure Yaspo is a senior group leader and PI of the ICGC-PedBrain and ICGC-ProstateCancer projects. Dr. Bernd Timmermann is experts in next generation sequencing using all three different sequencing platforms. All of them are involved in large-scale sequencing projects. Dr. Ralf Herwig is expert in data management, integration, bioinformatic analysis and modelling.
